Announcement: Since January 2021 the European Journal of Cell Biology became an open access journal. Authors who publish in European Journal of Cell Biology will be able to make their work immediately, permanently, and freely accessible.

European Journal of Cell Biology authors will pay an article publishing charge (APC), have a choice of license options, and retain copyright to their published work. The APC will be requested after peer review and acceptance. The APC payment will be required for all accepted articles submitted after the 30th of September 2020. The APC for European Journal of Cell Biology is USD 2100 (excluding taxes).

The European Journal of Cell Biology (EJCB) welcomes articles that include original long- and short-format studies and reviews covering multi-disciplinary approaches to cell biology in models as diverse as life itself. With emphasis in quality and reproducibility, the Journal also welcomes submissions on transversal and technical advances that push the edge of knowledge forward. The fundamental aim of EJCB is to serve its audience as a platform to illuminate and communicate the inner works of cells as the basic unit of life in its many shapes and forms.

Cell biology has become a multidisciplinary science driven to understand the basic principles of cellular behavior from single molecules to whole tissues and organisms. Within this scope, EJCB includes studies in the following areas and beyond:
Cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesion
Cell motility and migration
Organelle dynamics
Cell biophysics and mechanics
Molecular mechanobiology
Cytoskeletal dynamics
Cell proliferation
Cellular metabolism
Signal transduction
Molecular sorting
Cellular differentiation and reprogramming
Cellular senescence and programmed cell death
Cell specialization
Technical advances in cell biology
In silico modelling of cell functions
